Dana Bruce, 23, was reported missing 11 days ago after she failed to return home. Dana Bruce left her two young children in the care of a babysitter a week and a half ago on Oct. 4. The kids haven't seen ther mother since. Dana was reported missing by her family that next morning, when she never returned from a night out with friends. Bruce spent most of the night at Malone's Bar on Main Street in downtown Sedalia. Dale Malone, the bar's owner, says he saw Bruce several times throughout the night inside the bar, and bar staff say they saw her leave with a man. "I recall seeing her as I was going by," said Dale Malone, the owner of Malone's bar . "She touched my shoulder, and I turned, and she said, 'Hi, how are you doing?" Bruce left the bar with the man around 11:30 p.m. Police say Bruce went to the babysitter's home, gave the babysitter more money to continue watching the kids for the rest of the night, and that was the last time she was seen. Sedalia police say they believe the man she left the bar with is now in Atlanta. "We sent a team down by Atlanta, to interview that person. Took some samples from them, and their vehicle and brought it back," said Chief John DeGonia, Sedalia police. Police are not releasing the man's name and say he is not under arrest. They are not ruling him out as a suspect either. "As far as foul play goes," said DeGonia, "She left willingly with this subject and after that, the witnesses said they didn't see her anymore." If you have any information on the case, you are urged to call the Sedalia police at 660-827-7823.

http://www.kmiz.com/news/story.php?id=12595&author=Jacqueline%20Lapine&category=&franchise=&county=Pettis&city=Sedalia&partner=Leads Pour In For Missing Mid-Missouri Mom The search is still on for a missing Mid-Missouri mother of two and police say leads in the case are pouring in. Dana Bruce, 23, of Sedalia, has not been seen or heard from for nearly two weeks. Story written by Jacqueline Lapine Story posted on October 17, 2008 The search is still on for a missing Mid-Missouri mother of two and police say leads in the case are pouring in. Dana Bruce, 23, of Sedalia, has not been seen or heard from for nearly two weeks. Calls are pouring in and police are following every lead. Right now, there are several people police are looking at, but the strongest connection is with the 34-year-old male she went to the bar with. Police will not release his name but tell us he is being cooperative. Police did not recover any evidence tying him to the crime, but did collect some personal items in case they are needed for testing down the line. Dana Bruce frequented Malone's on Main Street, in Sedalia, and the night she went missing there were hundreds of people at the bar. Police have interviewed the bar's owner and employees. ABC 17 asked the owner, Dale Malone, what he knows about that night. He says Bruce left with the person of interest and was later seen at home where she gave the babysitter more money. Malone says his staff is trained to spot potential problems but when Bruce left with the person of interest things seemed okay. The Sedalia Police Department has nine people working this case and it is taking time to separate fact from fiction as calls come in. People are calling in with rumors that her body was found. Police think there is a strong possibility she is still alive. No one is being eliminated as a possible suspect because police do not have a strong case against anyone right now. Bruce's family is from the Sedalia area. They have been busy posting flyers. The father of Bruce's two children is currently taking care of them. Police tell ABC 17 he has also been cooperative in the investigation.

http://www.lakeexpo.com/articles/2008/10/23/top_news/11.txtSecond search for missing woman turns up nothing By Sarah Nail/The Sedalia Democrat, Sedalia, Mo. Thursday, October 23, 2008 7:28 AM CDT About 10 police officers were unable to find clues in the disappearance of Dana Bruce in a search of several areas in and around Sedalia Wednesday. The officers from the Sedalia Police Department's detective, community policing and reserve divisions used four wheelers in their search of about four areas. The department's canine, Demo, also assisted. Bruce was reported missing Oct. 5. She had gone out to a bar Oct. 4, and was last seen leaving with a man. Bruce returned to the baby sitter to give her more money to watch her children, ages 3 and nearly 2, for the rest of the evening. She has yet to return home. "We aren't searching for anything in particular," said Cmdr. Cendy Harrell. Officers concentrated on four areas: around Main Street, U.S. 65 near the Katy Trail, near ProEnergy and West 32nd Street near the Katy Trail. Harrell said it was a second sweep of some of the areas. Some of the places were selected because of calls about "foul odors," Harrell said. Meanwhile, two funds have been established to raise money so that a reward can be offered for information leading to the whereabouts of Bruce. A family member started an account Tuesday at Union Savings Bank, 101 S. Ohio Ave. Several businesses set up the Dana Bruce Reward Fund on Monday at Excel Bank, 818 Thompson Blvd. The Dana Bruce Fund at Union Savings Bank is collecting money to offer a reward, and to assist in the search, such as buying flyers. Donors who are interested in receiving their money back, if the reward is not given out and Bruce reappears, can leave their name and address with Union Savings Bank. Jackie Dawson, kitchen manager at End Zone Sports Bar & Grill, said the business is helping with the fund at Excel Bank because she wants to help bring the community together to find Bruce. "It could happen to any one of us, and we're just worried," Dawson said. "... I just know if it happened to my daughter, I wouldn't know what to do." The End Zone, Excel Bank and Johnny Baker's Car Corral are taking up collections for the reward fund. All the money raised will be used to offer a reward. Dawson said they will receive help from the police in deciding when and to whom the reward should be given. In the event Bruce reappears on her own, the police will decide what to do with the money, Dawson said.

http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/1970118/Reward fund for missing woman collects $1,800Fri. October 24, 2008; Posted: 07:41 PM (The Sedalia Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Two reward funds to help find a woman missing for three weeks have raised about $1,800. The Dana Bruce Reward Fund established at Union Savings Bank, 101 S. Ohio Ave., has collected about $1,500, said Penny Ford, an aunt of the father of Bruce's children. A fund by the same name at Excel Bank, 818 Thompson Blvd., has about $300. Bruce was reported missing Oct. 5, after she failed to return home after going out on Oct. 4 with a man she met at a Sedalia bar. She was last seen by her baby sitter, who she paid to stay with her children, ages 2 and 3, for the rest of the evening. The hope is that the rewards would give an incentive to anyone with information about Bruce's whereabouts to come forward. Ford said it's "imperative" to offer a reward. "If it takes paying someone to tell us where she is, if she is here, it's worth every penny we collect up," Ford said. Bruce left without a vehicle, cell phone or credit cards. Ford said it would be impossible for her to "vanish without someone's help." "People can't just disappear off the face of the earth without somebody knowing something, and that is just what this seems like," she said. "She's disappeared without a trace." Jackie Dawson, kitchen manager at End Zone Sports Bar & Grill, one of the businesses that established the fund at Excel Bank, said four contributions make up the $300 raised. Those were from former state Sen. Jim Mathewson, Yeager's Cycle, End Zone owner Freda Hurley and End Zone employees and customers. Johnny Bakers Car Corral is also accepting donations to the reward fund at Excel Bank. "I would at least hope for at least $1,000," Dawson said. "I think a $1,000 reward might get someone talking." The End Zone is hosting a hog-roast fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 15 for the reward fund. The cost is $5 per person, with all of the proceeds going to the fund. Dawson said people may bring a side dish. Ford has placed collection containers at nearly 20 businesses throughout Sedalia. "If any businesses out there would like to help me, I'd be willing to bring them the container," she said. Some of the businesses include Hardees east, Eddie's Drive-In, Kehde's Barbecue, Patricia's Mexican and More Restaurant, Country Kitchen, Griff's, LeMaire's Cajun Catfish and Seafvood House, Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, Texaco, Papa Jake's Donut Shop, Yeager's Cycle Sales, Wheel-In, American Legion Post 642, Murphy's Oil, Malone's on Main, Coach's Sports Bar, Chez When and Fifth Street Brew Pub. People may mail contributions to Union Savings Bank, 101 S. Ohio Ave. Ford said donors should include their name and address if they want their money back should the reward remain unclaimed. Contributions can be mailed to the Dana Bruce Reward Fund at Excel Bank, 818 Thompson Blvd.

http://www.kctv5.com/news/17793842/detail.htmlPolice, Family Seek Missing Sedalia Woman Woman Asked Baby Sitter To Stay Longer, Then DisappearedPOSTED: 7:46 am CDT October 24, 2008 UPDATED: 12:40 pm CDT October 24, 2008 SEDALIA, Mo. -- A Sedalia woman stopped by home long enough to give a baby sitter money to stay longer, and hasn't been seen since then, her family members said. That was three weeks ago. Fliers are posted around Sedalia with a picture of 23-year-old Dana Bruce. She was last seen Oct. 4, her family members said. "There's no way she would just leave and take off without letting someone know at least, and without her kids," said one relative. Police said Bruce went to Malone's On Main bar to meet friends on Oct. 4. The bar was packed that night. Witnesses said Bruce left with a man she'd just met and headed over to Coach's, another bar a few blocks away. Around 11:30 p.m., Bruce stopped by her house and paid her baby sitter more money to stay the night with her two young children, police said. That was the last time anyone reported seeing her. "Every lead that has come in we have followed up," a police spokeswoman said. Officers searched several areas around town, areas where they were getting reports of foul odors. They found nothing. Anyone with information on the case or anyone who saw Dana Bruce that night is asked to call the Sedalia Police Department at 660-826-8100.Funds have been set up at the Union Savings Bank, 101 South Ohio Ave., and the Excel Bank, 818 Thompson Blvd., in Sedalia to be used for a reward in the case.

http://ipcommunications.tmcnet.com/news/2008/10/27/3736832.htmBRIEF: Family, friends organizing search for missing womanOct 27, 2008 (The Sedalia Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Business News via COMTEX) -- Family and friends are organizing a community wide search for a woman missing for more than three weeks. The search for Dana Bruce, the 23-year-old mother of two small children reported missing Oct. 5, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday. People interested in helping with the search can meet at the End Zone Sports Bar & Grill parking lot. Jackie Dawson, End Zone kitchen manager, said she expects the police to identify areas to search. Adults looking for Bruce should wear long pants and boots. Dawson said she will provide disposable gloves. People are welcome to bring four-wheelers or hunting or tracking dogs, she said. Organizers ask that children not participate. Dawson said she hopes to get as many as 300 people involved in the search. "I've had a number of people say they think we should go out on a search," Dawson said. The search is a way to help the police who are "doing all they can do," but probably don't have enough manpower for a widespread search, Dawson said. Dawson said she expects the search to be canceled if it rains.

This is a case that has left family members worried and police looking for leads. Dylan, 4, can't read the flyers hanging all over town that say his mom disappeared almost a month ago, virtually without a trace. She has missed her other child's birthday and if she remains missing, will miss Dylan's birthday next week. "Having her birthday, we thought if it was possible she would have come back by the birthday, but birthday's come and gone," Bruce's Aunt Penny Ford said. Police said Bruce was at a Sedalia bar the night of Oct. 4 with a man police won't name. Police said around 11:30 that night, Bruce returned to her babysitter's house to pay her more money to keep her kids later. That was the last anyone saw of her. Her family reported her missing the next day. "I've been here for 25 years and have never had a case such as this," Cendy Harrell of the Sedalia Police Department said. Sedalia police have traveled to Atlanta to interview the man she was last seen with but are hesitant to call him a suspect. "We did go to Georgia in reference to a person of interest, and were able to talk with the individual, and at this point nobody's been ruled out," Harrell said. Police have followed up on a number of tips, but all turned up empty, leaving family members holding out hope. Ford had a message she hopes Bruce will receive. "Dana, if it's possible and you're able, please call anybody, to let us know you're okay. I don't think she's staying away on her own, if she just needed a break she would have done been back by now. Mommies just don't take off and stay gone for 23 days," Ford said. The family and friends are offering an $1800 reward for information on Bruce.

http://www.truecrimereport.com/2008/10/the_disappearance_of_dana_bruc.phpThe Disappearance of Dana BrucePosted at 4:52 PM Oct 16, 2008 Dana Bruce was reported missing on October 5. A family member grew concerned after Dana left her children overnight with a babysitter on October 4. The 23-year-old resident of Sedalia, MO was supposed to go with a male friend to Malone's on Main. Dana left with a man driving a red truck. She hasn't been seen since. Now detectives from Missouri are in Atlanta talking to a man they call a "person of interest" in Dana's disappearance. Scent dogs and officers are combing the area around where the man worked in Sedalia. He was a pipefitter and welder at Pro Energy. The man who is being questioned in Georgia was arrested in Atlanta. He has been charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana. The 34-year-old apparently decided to leave Sedalia on October 14, after police there said they'd like to interview him again about Dana's disappearance. The missing woman was dana_jane22 on MySpace.com. Her profile was a study in contrasts. She had a "Playboy's Finest" background decorated with the iconic bunny head in neon white edged with purple, and glittering graphics reading "Hot Stuff" and "I cared to [sic] much in the past to care now." Dana also had a graphic featuring a photo of her and her two children, towheaded little boys barely out of pull-ups. Dana Bruce had 108 friends on MySpace, and most of the top 28 friends visible on her main page were young men, often with their shirts off and throwing faux gangsta attitude at the camera. The comments left by some friends since October 4 told some of the story behind the mystery of Dana Bruce's disappearance. On October 5th, a female friend wrote "dana is missing!!!" She continued, "this is not a joke." The following day a friend named Janet repeated the first message about Dana's disappearance and added, "DANA HAS TWO KIDS THAT SHE WOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT FOR THIS LONG. IF YOU READ THIS DANA PLEASE CALL US EVERYONE IS WORRIED SICK ABOUT YOU !!!!" An interesting aspect of the comments was the detail mentioned in passing about the man with whom Dana was last seen; no one in her usual circle of friends seemed to know who he was. By October 15, Dana's friend Angelina was panicked. Her comment read, in part, "I CANT TAKE MUCH MORE..I WISH THERE WAS A WAY FOR THE FAMILY TO KNOW YOUR OK..YOU KNOW WE ALL LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!!!ITS BEEN A WEEK AN A HALF AN NOBODY HAS HEARD FROM YOU IF THERES ANY WAY FOR YOU TO LET US KNOW YOUR OK PLEASE DO SO..." It just isn't looking good for Dana Bruce. A mysterious disappearance. A man who skips town when the police request an interview. None of it adds up to a good result. And even if Dana's vanishing isn't a high-profile case, it's quite clear there are some friends, relatives, and two small boys who care very much about what happened to her. And all the hardbodies in Dana's top 28? Whoever they are (not all of them are celebrities, except perhaps in their own minds), not a single one has left a comment since she vanished.

http://www.sedaliademocrat.com/news/missing_12710___article.html/woman_sedalia.htmlPolice go all out to find missing womanAuthorities spent more than 1,400 hours working on case so farNovember 8, 2008 - 10:23PM Sarah Nail The Sedalia Democrat Officers have spent more than 1,400 hours working on the case of a missing Sedalia woman, at a cost of more than $34,500 for wages and other expenses. “This is probably one of the most intensive investigations I’ve seen in 25 years, unrelated to a crime,” said Cmdr. Cendy Harrell. Dana Bruce, 23, was reported missing Oct. 5 after she went to a bar, left with a man and returned to pay a baby sitter more money to keep her two children overnight. She never returned home. Sedalia Chief John DeGonia shut down the detectives division to work exclusively on finding Bruce. He said the money for officers overtime comes from the department’s budget and “there’s no way to recoup” the expenses. Officers are already trying to cut back on overtime expenses by waiting to complete more menial reports until the next day and doing ancillary assignments on their regularly scheduled shifts. They are also adjusting hours to minimize or eliminate overtime. Detectives are now working other cases, in addition to following leads in the Bruce case. Other work fell behind while the detectives focused solely on the Bruce case. DeGonia said detectives are still “dropping everything” to work leads that come in about Bruce. Bruce’s foster sister called police after she hired a psychic from Camdenton County who believed Bruce’s body was in a quarry. Three divers and four investigators spent several days last week searching three water quarries and two rock quarries. Sgt. Adam Hendricks and Harrell continue to focus on the Bruce case. They field phone calls with tips daily. “The community is still helping us tremendously with information, and we’re very appreciative,” Hendricks said. He often receives calls from people who think they have seen a woman resembling Bruce riding in a vehicle, but are unable to give a license plate number. “Lots and lots of these come in; people are trying to help,” he said. Officers ask hunters and fishers to be on the lookout for clothing or other clues, and take note of foul odors. Detectives also sent information about Bruce through the military so that notices are posted at any bases where personnel from Whiteman Air Force Base have been shipped. DeGonia also called the Federal Bureau of Investigations shortly after Bruce disappeared to see what help the agency could provide. The FBI would only get involved if it was an interstate abduction. “This does not meet their criteria,” DeGonia said. A Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) alert, which reaches every police agency in the state, was issued about Bruce’s disappearance. An e-mail was also sent via the Missouri Information Analysis Center to private e-mails of officers who are registered for the service throughout the state. “We have got fingers out everywhere,” Harrell said. Bruce’s disappearance presents many challenges. Officers have been unable to find evidence of a crime, and witnesses say Bruce left with the man voluntarily. They have also been unable to track Bruce because she doesn’t have a vehicle, cell phone, ATM card, checkbook or credit cards. Here’s what police have been able to put together leading up to Bruce’s disappearance: She was at Malone’s on Main, then walked to another bar with a man. Police identified that man as a “person of interest” and later interviewed him in Atlanta. The man told police Bruce wanted to return to Malone’s and the two parted ways. Bruce was seen leaving Malone’s with a man in a red pickup truck. Police did not say whether the man in the pickup was the same person they interviewed in Atlanta. She returned to her baby sitter to give her more money for the rest of the night, but she has yet to return home. The man deemed a “person of interest” worked for Pro Energy and was originally from Florida. Police believe he was returning to Florida when he was stopped in Atlanta. His truck is not red. Officers seized items from the man’s truck and trailer, but have yet to receive all the lab results. Despite a lack of evidence of foul play, friends and family fear the worst. They say Bruce wouldn’t stay away from her children, ages 2 and 4, this long voluntarily. Harrell said she can confidently “assure the family that every lead is followed up.” Project Jason does NOT recommend the use of psychics in missing persons cases. There is not a single proven case in which a missing person was found using paranormal means. Use of psychics wastes police and other resources, causes prejudice against the case, and emotional harm to the families.
