Bonham woman still missing

Monday, September 14, 2009

On Saturday, September 12 at approximately 8:15 am Bonham Police Department received a call from Thomas Brewer reporting his wife, 71 year old Katie Brewer was missing.  Mr. Brewer advised that Katie Brewer is suffering from dementia.

The Bonham Police Department and the Bonham Fire Department then began a massive search beginning at the residence on Carpenter Loop in East Bonham.

Approximately 120 volunteers searched the area by foot and ATV Saturday, going door to door and checking RVs and out buildings.

The area was also searched by trained canines from Mar-K9, Texas Dept. Criminal Justice, and Fannin Co Sheriff's Office.  The search was scaled back around midnight Saturday.

On Sunday morning at 7 a.m. the search recommenced with approximately 150 volunteers on foot, ATV, horseback, and helicopter.  Search One canines assisted.

As of today Mrs. Brewer has not been located, but search is still ongoing with ground crews on foot and by ATVs.

Anyone with information about Brewer's whereabouts should contact the Bonham Police Department at 903-583-2141.

Search Continues for Missing Bonham Woman

A statewide Silver Alert has been issued to help find a missing 71 year old Bonham woman. Deeda Payton has more on the search to find Katie Joe Brewer.

Brewer disappeared Saturday morning. She was last seen near her home in Bonham wearing blue pants and a white and blue striped shirt. She does suffer from Alzheimer's.

Monday is the third day volunteers have searched for the woman. Over the past three days, over 300 people have come out to add to the search effort.

The Bonham Police Department leads the search that has been made difficult by the rain and mist. Detective Terry Bee says they have now searched the eastside of Bonham, north of Ninth Street and South of 273, about five times with no luck. However, they did find a pair of shoes, they say, could belong to brewer in that area. "I've not been through a situation like this before, but as far as hope, we always hold out hope that she's holed up someplace out of the weather and just hasn't made contact with anybody or nobody has made contact with her."

Tuesday authorities hope to take the search for Katie Joe Brewer to the skies. Weather permitting, they will conduct a helicopter search.

If you have any information contact Bonham Police at 903-583-2141.

Missing woman's daughter speaks out
09/16/2009
KTEN Local News
Ashley Conroy

BONHAM, TX -- The search for missing 71-year-old Katie Joe Brewer continues as the Bonham police halted organized search efforts.

Police are continuing independent searches as of now. Yesterday, they sent out a helicopter to conduct a fly over.

Family and friends of the missing woman gathered at her Bonham home all day to look for any clues.

Mrs. Brewer's daughter, Lisa Wilson is holding up and says she's hoping her mother can be found.

"She's in good physical health and she might be able to get up and move. If that's the case we're hoping someone might be able to see her move from one spot to another," Wilson said.

Hundreds of volunteer's showed up to help find Katie Joe Brewer over the last several days. But after days of searching the clues are still missing.

"There's a real disappointment we didn't find her and we've exhausted our resources in doing so," Bonham fire chief Bill Payla said.

In the meantime, police were hopeful being able to conduct the helicopter fly over after the rainy skies cleared.

"We do have the department of public safety helicopter scheduled to return for a flyover searching in different areas," Sgt. of Bonham police dept. Wendell Bockman said.

Brewer's daughter continues to ask everyone in the Bonham community to keep searching for any clues or information leading to the disappearance of her mother.

KTEN Local News
09/20/2009

BONHAM, TX -- Nearly a week after she went missing, still no good news regarding the search for Katie Jo Brewer, but now here family is offering a reward.

A $5,000 reward is being offered leading to the safe return of Brewer. She was last seen early last Saturday morning near her Bonham home. She suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia. Her family believes she may have wandered from her home.

Since she was first reported missing, more than 400 volunteers have combed east Bonham looking for Brewer, but have had no luck. There is no organized search for her at this time, but her family is still actively looking for her. Police are still asking the public to search their RVs, garages, out-buildings and anywhere where Mrs. Brewer may have sought shelter during last week's rain.

Project Jason announces the featured missing persons in the October 2009 issue of the CDLJobs.com Online Magazine, which can be viewed at http://www.cdljobs.com/cdljobsonlinemagazine/OCT09.htm  This month's ad is on page 10. The site receives thousands of visitors per day.

Each month, CDLJobs.com publishes a full color ad in their popular online magazine which will feature 5-6 of Project Jason's missing person cases from across the country. The ad has clickable links which take the reader to additional information about the missing person, and a link to their printable poster.  Readers are encouraged to sign up for the AAN program and help with poster distribution. "You can be a Hero" is the theme of the joint venture.

Awareness Angels Network (AAN). AAN, begun by Project Jason in 2008, provides a way for the public to assist the families of missing persons. Missing persons posters designed specifically for the AAN program are disseminated via email to those enrolled in the program. The program helps spread the word and increase the chances of finding the person.

Hope remains for missing woman's safe return

Nov 10, 2009

Video

Bonham, TX--It's been nearly two months since an elderly Bonham woman went missing. Tuesday evening the husband of Katie Jo Brewer pleaded for anyone with information into her disappearance to come forward.

Hundreds of volunteers and thousands of man hours have turned up nothing into the search for Katie Jo Brewer. She was last seen on a rainy September morning and since then some would say it's as if she vanished into thin air.

In the early morning hours of Saturday September 12th, 2009 Bonham police say 71-year old Katie Jo Brewer went missing. Police say she was last seen near her home on Carpenter Loop in east Bonham. In the days to follow, more than 400 volunteers would scour the grounds near the quiet neighborhood, but few clues would be found. Police say Brewer suffers from Dementia and they believe she may have wondered off in the middle of the night.

"At night I have a panic but, when that happens I just try to get busy again," said Thomas Brewer, Katie’s husband.

Thomas Brewer says every time the phone rings he hopes for a miracle but as more time passes it becomes more difficult to cope.

"I've try to prepare myself for the worst, but I've about decided that not knowing is the worst,” said Thomas Brewer

Mr. Brewer said Katie had shown signs her dementia was getting worst and a month before her disappearance he took her car keys away. Brewer said he never imagined his wife of 54 years would just wonder away.

"She was very pleasant to be around. She didn't have a mean bone in her body and loved them kids and grandkids,” said Thomas Brewer.

For now posters with Brewer's picture and description have been put up around the Bonham area but with few leads. Bonham police say Brewer is 5’ 2’’ in height and weighs 116 lbs. with brown and gray hair and blue eyes.

Thomas Brewer hopes someone will know something and come forward.

"If anybody has any information, no matter how little, we'd like to know it,” said Thomas Brewer.

Bonham Police say they received a tip that someone reportedly saw a person of Brewer's description near Lake Texoma this past weekend. Detective Terry Bee says that is the first lead authorities have received in more than a month, and says the department plans to check into it further.

Brewer’s family is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.

Katie has been placed on Project Jason's 18 Wheel Angels campaign. A special poster has been made for her and can be downloaded and printed for placement. More information about the program, and the link for the poster can be found here:

http://projectjason.org/18wheel.shtml

In addition to the campaign, Katie was also featured in a national trucking publications, either Independent Contractor or TruckJobSeekers. These free magazines are distributed in truck stops nationwide and have a circulation of about 150,000.

Independent Contractor and TruckJobSeekers are two of Target Media Partner's many publications. In partnership with Project Jason, they each feature two missing persons each per month. You can pick up your free copies at a local truck stop, but if it's far from you, you may want to call and ask if they carry that magazine. These are NOT with the regular for purchase magazines.

We hope this helps in the search for Katie. Please consider printing and placing a poster in businesses in your community.

Thank you.
